CLICK, the acronym for the award-winning Centre for Land Information and Computer-based Knowledge, is a developing web-based GIS or geographic information system. The Annapolis District Planning Commission (ADPC) conceived the project during the 1990's, but was without the resources to implement a web-delivered GIS for its affiliated small communities. The Commission then described the project as part of a proposal targeted for SMART Communities funding through Industry Canada. A SMART Communities contract was won and received funding in April 2001. The ADPC retained private partners and enlisted the NSCC to ensure that CLICK provides information and services across the web to its member towns - Middleton, Bridgetown and Annapolis Royal. Phase 1 of CLICK was completed March 31, 2004. Currently, the CLICK development team is working steadily on Phase II as well as developing plans for Phase III. The NSCC partner responsibilities are being migrated to Applied Geomatics Research Group (AGRG), an NSCC adjunct.
In addition to the Annapolis District Planning Commission, the project has public and private partners.
- A server provided by the project to the Nova Scotia Community College/ Centre of Geographic
Sciences hosts CLICK. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is in place that describes the partnership and allows student
and faculty use of municipal data for educational projects, research and development.
- ESRI Canada is the prime consultant to the project.
- Towns of Annapolis Royal, Bridgetown
and Middleton and their administration, public works, economic development and
recreation departments are the major beneficiaries of the system.
- The Western Valley Development Authority(WVDA) was the regional economic development
authority for this part of Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley and the local coordinating agency for SMART Communities.
